Fare Deal Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Fare Deal program?
Metro's Fare Deal Program offers reduced fare for older adults and people with disabilities. Fare Deal fare is half of the regular Metro fare (including zone charges). A Fare Deal sticker is available for unlimited rides for the month.

Who is eligible for Fare Deal?
Fare Deal eligibility is based on federal guidelines. To be eligible for a Fare Deal card, you must:

  • Have a Medicare card (any age)
  • Be age 65 years or older
  • Have a qualifying disability that can be verified by a physician or licensed health care provider

I'm low-income... do I qualify?
Fare Deal is not an income-based program. It's for older adults and people with disabilities. A Medicaid card will not qualify you for eligibility.

How do I apply for a Fare Deal card?

  • Complete a Fare Deal application. Call 632-7540 for the correct application.
  • If you are not 65 or older or don't have a Medicare card, have your physician or the licensed health care provider treating you for the qualifying condition complete and sign the back of the application.
  • Bring the completed application, Medicare card (if you have one) and a state or government-issued photo ID card showing your birth date to 128 East 4th Street, Cincinnati, OH, 45202.
  • The Fare Deal office is open Mondays and Fridays, 8:15a.m. - 4p.m., closed from 12:00 - 1:00p.m. for lunch. The office is also closed on holidays that fall on Mondays, the Friday after Thanksgiving and the week between Christmas and New Years.

I have a Fare Deal card. When will I be recertified?
You need to renew your card by the month and date of expiration printed on your current card. Call 632-7540 to schedule an appointment.

I have an old application... will it be accepted?
We are no longer accepting the old Fare Deal applications. You will need to complete a new application by calling 632-7540 and go through the eligibility process.

How long is a Fare Deal card valid?
If your eligibility is approved, you will receive a new Fare Deal card valid for up to two years. Fare Deal requires eligible customers to be recertified when their eligibility expires.

How much does the Fare Deal card cost?
For new eligible customers the cost is $1, which must be paid at your appointment. If you're a current cardholder, you may turn in your old card at your appointment and the $1 fee will be waived.

I lost my Fare Deal card. How much does a replacement card cost?
As of January 10, 2010, replacement cards are $10, $20 and $30 for first, second and third replacement cards. (There will not be a fourth replacement, customers will have to wait until the original expiration date of their card to replace).

I have an Access card... do I need a Fare Deal card?
Access customers may use their Access ID card for reduced fare on Metro.

How will I find out if I'm eligible for Fare Deal?
The card is issued the day of processing the application. If we are not able to verify your information, you will be notified by mail.

If you are not eligible and wish to appeal the decision, please contact 632-7540 within 60 days of the date on the denial letter to initiate the appeals process. You will have the opportunity to present your appeal in-person before an appeals committee composed of local health and disability representatives.

What if I have questions?
If you have any questions, please call the Fare Deal office at 632-7540.
